How Important Vet Visits Are

When you bring a puppy into your family, one of your key responsibilities is making sure they’re healthy and stay that way. Of course, there’s no way to 100% ensure your pup’s good health, but vaccinations are a great place to start! Newborn puppies do not have innate immunity at birth; they get antibodies from the mother which helps protect them from disease while their immune system develops. Hence several boosters are necessary over the course of the first year in order to provide ideal immunity for your puppy.

At times, many puppies already have intestinal parasites contracted from the mother before they are even born. Therefore it becomes important to have your vet deworm your puppy regularly and perform faecal exams to ensure that treatment is complete. If left untreated intestinal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms can cause anaemia and weight loss which can be fatal. Common intestinal parasites of dogs can cause problems in people as well so not only do they affect your puppy’s health but yours as well and anyone that may be exposed to the puppy’s faeces. Regular deworming and picking up after your puppy can go a long way in minimizing zoonotic diseases. Hence deworming is very important.

Except for this, right now it’s the season of diseases hence pet should be taken care of more. Monsoon brings a welcome relief from the scorching heat of summer but it also brings a lot of health problems. Rainy season is the period of breeding of germs, as microbes get enough water for their growth. These microbes are not only dangerous for humans, but they also affect pets in the same way. Every year in monsoon, the number of cases of pet infections, pneumonia, cold and fever/ flu, cough, and lose motions rises. Hence it is your duty to provide special care to your lovely pets so as to save them from these monsoon diseases. There are common symptoms such as more than bad breath or drooling, excessive drinking or urination, appetite change associated, change in activity level (e.g., lack of interest in doing things they once did), difficulty in climbing stairs, sleeping more than normal , coughing, sneezing, excessive panting, or labored breathing, dry or itchy skin, sores, lumps, or shaking of the head, frequent digestive upsets or change in bowel movements, dry/red or cloudy eyes all these show that you need to visit the vet.

Hence you should take care of the diet of your pet during monsoon which should mainly comprise fibre-rich food like banana, as it helps pets who suffer from indigestion. You should avoid dairy products because some pets may be allergic. In addition, makes sure that the pet food is freshly prepared and free from microbes like fungi. It is highly recommended to add multivitamins or vitamin supplements during the rainy season. You should also maintain good hygiene and keep the feeding area clean. Also, don’t forget to make your pet exercise indoors itself.

You need to keep the record of their vaccinations and find a great veterinarian. Ideally, if you want to find out which veterinarian you plan on using before you get your puppy. Ask your friends that are dog owners which veterinarians they recommend. If possible, visit the clinic beforehand and look around, is the waiting area clean, is the staff courteous and helpful and if they handle emergencies after hours. If your first veterinarian makes you uncomfortable in any way keep looking until you find one that is a good fit for you and your puppy.
