Call it instinct or a dog’s caring nature, a dog saved a baby deer from the water off the coast of Long Island in New York. According to the owner of the dog, Mark Freeley, he was walking along the Long Island in the morning along with two of his dogs, Sarah and Storm when the later spotted the head of the deer popping out of the water.

Talking about the incident, CBS New York quoted Freeley as saying, “Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore. And then he started nudging it, and started pulling it to make sure she was gonna be OK I guess.” Meanwhile, Freeley was recording video of his walk with his dogs not knowing what was in store for them. As soon as the fawn reached the shore, Storm laid next to it to ensure it was doing fine. After Storm pulled the deer out of the water, Freeley called the experts to check on the rescued animal.
